Task 6: Review on Hot Potatoes

Salam,

Hot Potatoes? What is hot potatoes?

By hearing the name makes people think of what actually ‘hot potatoes’ is. Is it as hot as the name given?

Well in my opinion, it is not as hot as the name given it is more to ‘suam-suam kuku’..lol

 As for several reasons:

• The application is as plain/ dull as it seems. Although the application is easy to conduct the interface are not very attractive. When I clicked at the ‘hot potatoes’ shortcut all I can see was a hand holding a potato. At first I though it was pretty outstanding, however after several times exploring the application (JCloze, JMatch, JCross, JMix) all I can see was cubical all the way. The application is conventional however it is practical.
• Not so interactive. The application should be more interesting and interactive if the creator could set an option where the interface can be change to various colour and shape. Well that would be fun and well present!
• The application is one way interaction, where there is only interaction between the user and the computer itself.
• The application is only focus on how to prepare the exercise.

However, all the negatives come the positive ones:

• I found that this application is very useful especially if the user is an educator who wants to prepare exercises for his/her students. If the user have explore the application he/she will definitely know how to make use of the application by preparing various exercises in the form of matching exercise (JMatch), open ended questions (JCloze) and for more exciting exercise the user can make use of the JCross and JMix.
• (2 in 1). The learner has the opportunity to explore the application thus learn the content of the language learning.
• It motivates the students to learn as technology has been part of someone’s life. It will be an intrinsic motivation for the students to learn the language as computer is the middle tool to learn the language.

All in all, after learning on how to use the Hot Potatoes application, I feel that it is the best experience for future educator like me to comprehend the application in my lesson. I would say that this application is the best hand for educator and it will be great if the user can incorporate animations, sound and videos to the lesson as it would make the lesson attractive, fun and enjoyable! Big thanks to Dr. Izaham for teaching and introduce me to the Hot Potatoes application. I wish that I knew on how to utilize the application before my practicum semester as this would be useful to integrate it in my lesson.
